Luther and the Reformation in Leipzig
It is almost exactly 500 years since Martin Luther met the theologian Johannes Eck, who was loyal to the Pope, at the Pleißenburg in Leipzig – where the New Town Hall stands today.
The dispute in the summer of 1519 went down in history as the “Leipzig Disputation” and marked Luther’s final break with the Roman Catholic Church. Come to Leipzig in 2019 and immerse yourself in history! Discover historical sites such as St. Thomas Church, where the disputation was once opened and closed and “Auerbachs Keller,” the famous site of Faust’s first encounter with Mephisto in Goethe’s play….
